Creativity is allowing yourself to
make mistakes.

Art is knowing which ones to keep.

Information
Cherokee’s visual arts program is designed to build concepts, skills, knowledge and aesthetic awareness in a discipline-based approach that corresponds to the development and maturation of our students which follows the Georgia Core Curriculum Standards.  This curriculum helps build observation skills, encourages exploration of imagination, communicating personal ideas to others, and the correct use and manipulation of various tools, processes, and materials.

Our art teacher, Mrs. Christy Hill, is a graduate of Berry College and holds both a BS in Art Education and a Masters in Early Childhood Education.
Mrs. Hill has over 20 years experience in teaching art at the elementary level and is not only an art teacher but an artist.
She has won several awards for her paintings and other artistic talents.

Each Cherokee student has art once a week for 45 minutes.
They have many opportunities to showcase their talents in various contests and art shows through out the North Georgia area such as the Spring Arts Festival.
In the lower grades, Kindergarten through 2nd grade, the focus of art is creating two and three dimensional artworks using correct techniques and skills.
/ Elements of Art / Color mixing and painting / Construction using various materials / Clay sculpture

The upper grades use their knowledge of techniques and skills to create artworks based on historical art periods and various diverse cultures.
